Tater’s Week in Review 3/1/24

It’s the end of the week and the first of the month. Spring is almost here! Here is a quick look at my week.

Life

I was only at the school on Monday this week. It was weird to not be there the rest of the week. That might be the norm as we move out of the sick season.

It is looking more and more likely I’m going to have to replace my Verizon box and lose everything I have recorded. I made a list of where I can stream everything and will be considering moving to something like YouTube TV.

I’m still working through all of my free birthday stuff. We went to Red Robin this week for our free birthday burgers. It is a little annoying that you now have to dine in to get them, but it was nice that it forced us to actually go out for food instead of eating at home.

TV News and Views

Paramount Plus has ordered another NCIS spinoff to series. This one will bring back Tony and Ziva for their own show.

Miss Scarlet and the Duke has been renewed but will be rebranded Miss Scarlet because the Duke is leaving the show.

I watched the Rick and Michonne Walking Dead show. I liked the first episode. I think it will get better when they are together, but I think the next episode will be the story of how Michonne got to Rick. I hope all of these spinoffs end with a big crossover.

Survivor started last night. The cast is promising. I was happy they voted out the guy who showed he was willing to quit at the drop of a hat. He would be a terrible person to have on your team.

Books

I finished one book this week.

The Eyes and the Impossible by Dave Eggers – Johannes is a free dog who lives in a park by the sea. His job is to be the Eyes and see everything that happens. He is helped by his assistant Eyes: a pelican, a raccoon, a squirrel, and a seagull. He then reports back to the park elders, three ancient bison. Changes are happening at the park. There are more people. A building is going up with strange, hypnotic rectangles inside. A boatload of goats arrives with information that will change Johannes’ world.

This was the winner of the Newbery Award this year. It’s not the type of book I would normally read, but I picked it up because of the award. It was a quick, easy read, which makes sense since it won an award for books for children. I laughed in some spots. I got bored in some spots. Johannes annoyed me, but I loved all of the supporting characters. Recommended for people who want a nice, easy story about friendship and dealing with change.

On Deck

I hope to watch the first episode of Shogun this week.

Animal Control returns to FOX this week. I was pleasantly surprised that it was renewed. It is a fun show.

Alert: Missing Persons Unit also returns. I watch it because my family does, but it is not that good. It will be interesting to see how it goes now that the main story from last year was resolved.

I am currently reading Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid
