Tater’s Week in Review 10/21/23

It looks like this will go back to being a Saturday morning or a Friday afternoon thing. Otherwise, I will be writing it at 5 a.m. and that doesn’t sound fun.

Life

It was a busy week for me. I was at the school all day Monday, at the farm Tuesday, at the school for a half day Thursday, and at the farm and school Friday. I need rest but it appears we are cleaning out the garage today.

Not much else happened this week. That’s probably a good thing since I didn’t need anything else on my schedule.

Movies

I watched two movies this week:

All three of us watched Air on Sunday. It is the story of Nike wooing Michael Jordan with the promise of a show designed and named for him. It doesn’t sound like a movie that would hold my interest, but it worked. Matt Damon was very good in the lead role. The story was interesting. I don’t think you need to be a basketball fan to enjoy it. I would recommend it.

I watched No Hard Feelings on Wednesday afternoon while everyone else was at work or in class. Jennifer Lawrence stars as Maddie. Maddie is in danger of losing her house and needs a car to make money. She answers a Craigslist ad promising a car to someone who will “date” their socially awkward son and bring him out of his shell. Antics ensue when Maddie finds Percy is no sure thing. This is your typical R-rated comedy, but I enjoyed it. Lawrence is very good as Maddie. It was nice to see her do something like this. I like it when actors do something fun when they could easily stick with the more serious roles. It’s a nice, short, funny movie.

TV

I watched the Pete Davidson hosted SNL premiere. I was happy it was back, but thought it was a lackluster premiere.

We had another quitter on Survivor this week. I don’t know the answer to screening out potential quitters, but I hope they find one. It sucks to have a good episode ruined by someone dropping out.

I decided there was an Amazing Race team I didn’t like and they immediately won the next leg. Figures.

I watched the first episode of the Frasier revival. It is nowhere near as good as the original, but it wasn’t as bad as some of the reviews claimed. It has potential. I think it’s odd they didn’t plan at least one Cheers reunion with him being back in Boston.

We finished another season of Taskmaster. It is now or go to show in the afternoons while my wife is still working. It’s a fun show.

I watched the season finale of Daryl Dixon with the return of Carol. I like Carol, but I liked Daryl’s story in Paris and I’m afraid more of a focus on Carol trying to find him will take away from that.

I was happy two Survivor people won The Challenge: USA.

Books

I finished one book this week.

How Can I Help You by Laura Sims – Everyone at the small town library knows her as Margo. She is a normal, charming library employee. In reality, she is Jane, a fugitive nurse with a trail of suspicious deaths in her past. Then Patricia starts as the new reference librarian and Margo’s secret is no longer safe.

This was an interesting premise and had a strong start, but then nothing much happens in the middle of the book. It does end with a bang, but I felt like it could have been a lot better overall. It is short, but it took me a long time to read it because I was bored and didn’t feel the need to pick it up again.

On Deck

I have Joy Ride on DVD. I’ve recorded John Wick 4. We will still more likely watch Legally Blonde 2 this weekend.

The Canadian sitcoms we love are back on CW this Thursday, along with a new acquired show, Everyone Else Burns.

I am reading Black River Orchard by Chuck Wendig.

I am also listening to The President is Missing by James Patterson and Bill Clinton for book club. I’ve read it before because I have a copy of it at my house for some reason, but I wanted to remember something about it for the discussion.

Here is my weekly link to ways you can support my writing or buy me a cup of coffee
