Tater’s Week in Review 6/17/23

It was another week where I did not finish a book. The difference this week is that I read a lot. I just didn’t finish the book I am reading. I will say more about this in the book section below.

Life

I filled in as the barn lead Sunday morning. It was weird being on the farm on a day when the office is closed and no staff is on site. It is an easier day, though, when nothing is happening.

Tuesday was the complete opposite of Sunday. All of the horses were on all night because of the rain Monday evening. It was the last week of the school lessons and the farrier was there. I didn’t get home until the afternoon.

My wife was out of town for work. My daughter is now out of the house 4 days a week for work. I took advantage of that on Wednesday and gave myself a day to rest when there was no one home but me.

We had a farewell party for a staff member at MTR who is moving away. It was a nice party and I’ve been there long enough now that I didn’t feel like I was the only one who knew no one at the party.

Movies

I didn’t watch any new movies this week. We did watch Zombieland: Double Tap Wednesday night when my son was here doing laundry. I love the Zombieland movies. I thought Zoey Deutch was a good addition as Madison and I loved the scene where Luke Wilson and Thomas Middleditch play characters very similar to Woody Harrelson and Jesse Eisenberg.

TV

We finished the latest season of Outer Banks. I thought they did a good job of wrapping up the story and then setting up a new season. I still think most of the characters are very unlikable and make very dumb decisions, but it is still a fun show.

We started watching The Lazarus Project on TNT. It is a British import about a guy who keeps living the same stretch of time over and over again. He is recruited by an agency that reveals they can reset time to prevent world-ending events and he is one of a few who can remember their previous timelines. I like it so far.

Wonder Years returned this week. It is a very good show and I don’t understand why ABC banished it to summer.

We started watching XO, Kitty on Netflix last night. It is a spinoff show of the To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before movies in which the little sister goes to Seoul for school and to surprise her boyfriend there. I like it so far. I feel like it fills the hole left by the end of Never Have I Ever.

Books

I am reading Babel by R. F. Kuang. I’m 400 pages in and I still have over 100 pages left. It took me a bit to get into it. I kept going because my daughter loved it. As I read this week, I was reading more because I wanted to continue the story and less because of feeling like I had to. I expect to finish it this weekend and will say more about it next week.

On Deck

The new Walking Dead spinoff with Negan and Maggie starts tomorrow. I love both characters and I’ve read good things about the first episode.

Righteous Gemstones returns to HBO tomorrow. It has a great cast and is very funny.

We have Dungeons and Dragons and Avatar on the DVR and I have the DVD of Creed III. I would think we would watch one of these this week.

In addition to Babel, I am re-reading Woman in the Window for book club. As of now, I am only listening(at 1 3/4 speed) when I am driving. I won’t finish it that way, but I might remember enough to join the discussion. I also have the print version so I can finish it if I feel the need.
