Tater’s Week in Review 6/28/24

It’s that time of the week again for me to try to remember the past week. I, of course, did not take notes again.

Life

This was my last week in my usual barn shifts, I’m away next week and then I return to a new schedule. I was hoping to not be in charge right away on the new schedule, but, of course, they have a shift where they need a barn lead and I have difficulty saying no.

It has been too hot here to do much of anything. I’ve spent the week trying to stay inside as much as possible.

I’ve only been out of the house to go to the farm, Panera, and the library. If the weather gets better I need to try to get out more.

TV News and Views

Interview With the Vampire was renewed at AMC.

Daniel Ezra will not be returning as a series regular on All American next season. Given the end of the latest episode and the storyline for the next two, it makes sense that his story is done.

I watched the first two episodes of House of the Dragon. I like it, but I miss the sprawling, multi-kingdom Game of Thrones story.

The Walker series finale aired this week. It worked OK as a finale. Everyone seemed to be moving toward something good. They did have a surprise cameo at the end that would have set up a story for next season. Too bad it won’t happen.

I watched the first two episodes of DI Ray. I like it, but I find myself getting distracted while watching it.

Books

I finished two books this week.

Camino Ghosts by John Grisham –

Camino Island bookseller Bruce Cable tells author Mercer Mann a story that could be her next novel. A developer plans to build a casino and resort on Dark Isle. Dark Isle was the home of freed slaves for years and is rumored to be cursed. A local resident claims to be the owner of the island since she is the last living resident of the island.

I didn’t realize this was part of a series until I was already reading it and went to put it on Goodreads. It turns out I read the first book. This is the third book. You don’t need to read the others to read this one. It is a stand-alone story. It wasn’t a bad story. It was a fast read, but the fight over the island wrapped up way too neatly If you like Grisham and authors like him you will like this one.

It’s Hard For Me To Live With Me by Rex Chapman –

Rex Chapman played basketball at the University of Kentucky and in the NBA. He worked for NBA teams after retirement. He was also addicted to pain pills and gambling. He was arrested after stealing thousands of dollars of merchandise from an Apple store. This is his story.

I grew up 20 miles or so from Rex. He played basketball against my school when we were in high school. He was still playing at UK when I was a freshman there. So, I had a lot of interest in the book. I listened to the audio with Rex reading. It was interesting to hear about his experiences while playing in Kentucky. It was interesting and sad to hear about his struggles with addiction. I’m glad he is doing good now. I’m not sure anyone who is not already familiar with Rex would have an interest in his story.

On Deck

We will be traveling next week. I hope that means reading more books, but it usually doesn’t.

The new Beverly Hills Cop movie will be on Netflix on Wednesday.

I’m currently reading Unlikely Animals by Annie Hartnett.
