Tater’s Week in Review 6/21/24

We are at the end of another week already. I’m still thinking about changing the way I do the week in review so it doesn’t feel like a chore. Any suggestions are welcome.

Life

I’m only a couple of weeks into summer break and I’m already at the point where the days and weeks are starting to blur together. I need to start taking notes.

We had extra volunteers at the barn Tuesday morning so instead of feeling like I had too much work I felt like I didn’t have enough for everyone.

Since we were all off work on Wednesday we went out for lunch for a late birthday celebration for my son. We went to the same place he has chosen for his birthday meal most of his life.

Movies

We watched Anyone But You on Netflix over the weekend. We all liked it a lot. Glen Powell and Sydney Sweeney were great in the lead roles. They had great chemistry. It is your standard rom-com, but it was a very good one.

TV News and Views

It has finally been announced that Yellowstone will return on November 10. With it ending and with such a long break, I will have trouble caring.

Resident Alien has been renewed for a 4th season and will move to USA Network.

Grantchester has been renewed for a 10th season.

House of the Dragon has been renewed for a 3rd season.

I happened to be in the room while my daughter was watching School Spirits on Netflix. She was a few episodes in ut I got hooked and watched the rest of the season. It was very good and I’m looking forward to season two.

My daughter watched House of the Dragon with a friend and will continue to do so, so I guess I will be watching it on Monday mornings moving forward.

Books

I finished one book this week.

Crook Manifesto by Colson Whitehead – This is the sequel to Harlem Shuffle. We are back with Ray Carney in 1971 Harlem. His quest to get Jackson 5 tickets for his daughter takes him back to the darker side of Harlem. The second story moves us to 1973 and Pepper working as security for a movie. The final story is Carney and Pepper together tracking the person who set a fire that injures the child of one of Carney’s tenants.

I read this one for book club. I didn’t love Harlem Shuffle. I probably would not have read this one if not for book cub. It wasn’t a bad book. but I had trouble getting into it. And then, once I did, the story would end and we would be on the next. I didn’t care about Pepper’s search for a missing actress, so the middle part of the book slowed me down. I’ve loved other books I’ve read by Whitehead, but I don’t love these.

On Deck

The series finale of Walker airs next week.

I need to watch the first episode of House of the Dragon so I’m ready for the next one Monday morning.

I’m currently reading Camino Ghosts by John Grisham and listening to It’s Hard For Me To Live With Me by Rex Chapman

  1. I really liked Harlem Shuffle, so I’m hoping for the same from Crook Manifesto whenever I read it. I listened to HS, so I’ll probably go for the audio version of CM.
