What’s on TV Tonight 9/16/14

The fall season doesn’t really start until Sunday, but there are a few things on tonight, so I thought I would state early. Maybe I should do this every day since I can’t think of other stuff to write. So, here’s what’s on tonight.

NBC – America’s Got Talent – final six perform
FOX – Utopia, premieres of New Girl and The Mindy Project
ABC – Dancing With the Stars – first elimination show
Notable on cable – Sons of Anarchy on FX, Brickleberry premiere on Comedy Central

Really not much worth watching yet. I always lose interest in AGT after the auditions and totally lost interest this season when they eliminated some really good magicians to move through mediocre singers. I’ve heard Utopia is horrible and I’ve never watched an episode of Dancing With the Stars. I still haven’t watched Sons of Anarchy, so I’m waiting to catch up via Netflix or DVDs from the library once it is over. I watch New Girl, but am kind of meh about it these days. My advice – find a baseball game to watch, catch up on shows you have dvred or read a book.

The New Fall TV Grid

The below grid is courtesy of TVline.com. It’s easier than typing it all out again myself. So, here’s what I, personally think is worth watching.

Sunday night – Now with no Amazing Race the only thing I will watch on network TV is Brooklyn Nine Nine. I might try the new comedy Mulaney, but that’s about it. In October Sunday night will be all about The Walking Dead.

Monday – Mondays are hard because I work, but I will continue recording The Voice(even though I’m getting a little bored with it), The Blacklist(love James Spader) and Sleepy Hollow. I will be adding Gotham and hope it is not a waste of my time.

Tuesday – I will continue watching Shield(it got really good) and New Girl(getting old already) and family members will be watching Supernatural and Person of Interest. New shows I will try: Selfie(Amy Pond!) and Forever.

Wednesday – we will continue to watch The Middle, Modern Family, Survivor(still love it), Arrow and the 100. I might try Black-ish because I’ve always liked Anthony Anderson.

Thursday – I will continue to watch Grey’s Anatomy, Bones and Elementary and might try Bad Judge because I love Kate Walsh.

Friday – Amazing Race, Last Man Standing, Whose Line is it Anyway, Grimm and Blue Bloods and will record Hawaii 5-0 for my wife.

Saturday – watch a movie and/ or shows recorded previously.

I will do a more in depth look at the new shows when I do my daily “what to watch tonight” posts in the fall.

What I will Watch on TV Fall 2009

Here is my long overdue overview of what I think should be watched this TV season:

Monday night:  I will watch House and the CBS comedies as always.  I will try the new NBC show Trauma in hopes that it will be a good replacement for ER on my viewing schedule.  I will have to record encore episodes of Greek on ABC family now that I have too much to record on Monday nights.  Nothing else on the Monday schedule looks interesting.

Tuesday night: Possibly the worst night of TV of the week, I will only be watching Melrose Place and will either read or catch up on Tivo the rest of the night.

Wednesday night:  I will try Modern Family and Cougar Town – the two most promising new sitcoms this season. I might watch Hank and The Middle once because of the starts, but doubt they will stick.  I am already watching a loving Glee and will continue with that. I might give Mercy a try.

Thursday night:  Too much TV, too little Tivo – I will watch Survivor and Bones and try to record Flash Forward. I would love to try Vampire Diaries, but have no way to record it.  I will continue watching Grey’s Anatomy.  I know I should watch Fringe, but just didn’t find the time last season and will have to catch up on DVD.

Friday night:  Only Dollhouse and then Tivo’d shows after my kids are finished watching new Disney Channel shows.

Saturday night:  Nothing – Will watch Nick shows with my kids

Sunday night:  Will continue to watch Amazing Race and Desperate Housewives and football if it is a good game.

Skins(BBC America) – A Review

First- Full disclosure – I watched Skins only becaue I was  contacted via the blog by someone from BBC America asking me to watch it.  I had never heard of the show before and likely would never had watched it otherwise.  Honestly, most times I forget I even get BBC America.  It’s one of those channels I would watch more if I remembered to check it, but never do.  So, on to Skins.

I watched 2 episodes last night.  The first episode focused on a character named Chris who seems to be seriouslt drug-addled, insane or a little of both.  His mom had left and left him with money and he has a party.  It is imlied that the mom will not return.  He also is dealing with the effects of too much ED medication.  Other characters from the show were there, but coming in late I didn’t know who I should know and who were just one time players, so my focus was on Chris’s story.  I have to say that if this was the only episode I watched I would have called it a total mess and never watched again.  I ddn’t like Chris and couldn’t see watching him for an hour every week.  He’s just not someone I think many people could relate to and is also very irritating.  The less the focus is on him, the better the show is.

The second espisode switched the focus to Tony, Sid, Michele and Cassie.  Tony and Sid are best friends. Tony is dating Michele.  Sid is in love with Michele.  Cassie is in love with Sid and also has mental instability issues as well.  Tony is very manipulative and plans a scheme to let Michele and Sid see him with another girl so they will get closer.  From the ending it seems like maybe he is trying to draw them into a threesome or something, but it is also all about power, I think.  With Chris in the background and the focus on these characters, the show is much stronger.  Many teens can relate to Sid’s unrequited love and his difficulties with his father.  Tony provides the show with the drama it needs to keep things interesting.   All four characters are served well by very talented young actors.  The actor playing Sid stands out as the most taltented of the ensemble.  The show would be well served to focus more on him in future episodes.

I will give Skins another look and would recommend anyone who has liked shows like Gossip Girl, 90210, My So Called Life, etc. do so as well.
