Tater on TV: A Look at the 2023 Fall TV Season

While I was away, the networks announced plans for the next TV season. The writers’ strike makes it unlikely that the season will start without a delay.

NBC, CBS, and CW announced schedules anyway.

ABC announced a schedule, but it was a contingency schedule full of reality shows.

FOX announced what shows they will air, but not an actual schedule. I do agree with their reasoning that what is on is more important that when it is on.

Here is what we know.

ABC

Monday – 8pm – Dancing with the Stars, 10pm – The Golden Bachelor(the bachelor with old people)

Tuesday – 8pm – Celebrity Jeopardy, 9pm – Bachelor in Paradise

Wednesday – 8pm – Judge Steve Harvey, 9pm – reruns of Abbott Elementary, 10pm – What Would You Do?

Thursday – 8pm – Celebrity Wheel of Fortune, 9pm – Press Your Luck, 10pm – The $100,000 Pyramid

Friday – 8pm – Shark Tank, 9pm – 20/20

Saturday – 7:30pm – College Football

Sunday – 7pm – America’s Funniest Home Videos, 8pm – The Wonderful World of Disney.

All scripted shows are listed as “held for midseason” This is probably the most realistic schedule.

CBS

Monday – 8pm – The Neighborhood, 8:30pm – Bob Hearts Abishola, 9pm – NCIS, 10pm – NCIS: Hawai’i

Tuesday – 8pm – FBI, 9pm – FBI: International, 10pm – FBI: Most Wanted

Wednesday – 8pm – Survivor, 9:30pm – Amazing Race

Thursday – 8pm – Young Sheldon, 8:30pm – Ghosts, 9pm – So Help Me Todd, 10pm – Elsbeth

Friday – 8pm – SWAT, 9pm – Fire Country, 10pm – Blue Bloods

Saturday – repeats

Sunday – 7pm – 60 Minutes, 8pm – Matlock, 9pm – The Equalizer, 10pm – repeats

Elsbeth is a Good Wife spinoff. Matlock stars Katy Bates. Survivor and Amazing Race will have 90-minute episodes. I like that idea They film a lot and most of it gets cut. I think the two reality shows are the only two that will air this fall.

CW

Monday – 8pm – All American, 9pm – 61st Street

Tuesday – 8pm – Son of a Critch, 8:30pm – Run the Burbs, 9pm – Children Ruin Everything, 9:30pm – Everyone Else Burns

Wednesday- 8pm – Sullivan’s Crossing, 9pm – The Spencer Sisters

Thursday – 8pm – FBoy Island, 9pm – FBoy Island

Friday – 8pm – Penn & Teller: Fool Us, 9pm – Whose Line Is It Anyway

Saturday – 8pm – Masters of Illusion, 9pm – World’s Funniest Animals

Sunday – 8pm – I AM

The Tuesday and Wednesday shows are all shows from Canada or the UK that the CW has acquired. 61st Street is a canceled AMC show. No more superheroes. Walker is renewed and held for midseason.

FOX

Returning Shows – 911 Lone Star, Accused, Alert Missing Persons Unit. The Cleaning Lady, Animal Control, Bob’s Burgers, Family Guy, The Great North, The Simpsons, Farmer Wants a Wife, Hell’s Kitchen, I Can See Your Voice, LEGO Masters, Masked Singer, Name That Tune, Next Level Chef, Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.

New Shows – Doc – About a doctor who has an accident and loses 8 years of memories and lifeguard drama, Rescue: Hi-Surf.

NBC

Monday – 8pm – The Voice, 10pm – The Irrational

Tuesday – 8pm – Night Court, 8:30pm – Extended Family, 9pm – The Voice, 10pm – Quantum Leap

Wednesday – 8pm – Chicago Med, 9pm – Chicago Fire, 10pm – Chicago PD

Thursday – 8pm – Law & Order, 9pm – Law & Order: SVU, 10pm Found

Friday – 8pm – The Wall, 9pm – Dateline

Saturday – 7:30pm – Big Ten Saturday Night

Sunday – 8pm – Sunday Night Football

Held for midseason – La Brea, Law & Order: Organized Crime, Lopez vs Lopez, Magnum PI, Password, Transplant, etc,

Tater’s Thoughts

I have a feeling the strike will last long enough for all of the scripted shows to be held until after the holidays. We will then get an abbreviated season from January to May.

I’m happy we will likely still get Survivor and Amazing Race in the fall. I love them both.

I will probably watch shows like Celebrity Jeopardy and the $100,000 Pyramid to pass the time.

I’m not too excited about any of the new shows that will eventually air. I will try them all and will hope to be pleasantly surprised by some.
