Welcome to another Saturday edition of my week in review.
Life
My application to sub at a local private school is moving along. After receiving my resume the school asked me to complete an application with more questions. They have now informed me my resume has been passed along to the upper school principal and they expect I will be contacted soon.
We got our first snow of the year. It was less than half an inch, but it was enough to count as measurable. I think it is the second latest date we have ever had measurable snow.
My birthday freebies have started to arrive. It will be a nice month of free food ahead.
TV News and Views
There were several TV renewals this week. The following were renewed.
- Night Court
- So Help Me Todd
- That 90s Show
- Mayfair Witches
- 1923
- The Traitors
- Kingdom Business
- The Cleaning Lady
It was also announced that this will be the last season of The Blacklist. That is way overdue.
I watched three episodes of the On My Block spinoff, Freeridge. It’s OK, but not close to On My Block quality. I watched the first season of On My Block in one day. I have no idea when or if I will go back to Freeridge.
The Schoolhouse Rock Singalong was terrible. Who thought it was a good idea to have random celebrities singing versions of the songs instead of showing the originals?
We watched the first two episodes of The Watchful Eye on Freeform. We liked it. Any show with Amy Acker and Kelly Bishop has to be good, right?
Books
I finished one book this week.

Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid – Told in the form of interviews, Daisy Jones and the Six tracks the rise and fall of the iconic rock band and their beautiful lead singer.
I loved this book. I loved the interview format. It was fun to see the events from the perspective of each member of the band instead of getting the story from one person. It was a quick, fun read. I’m looking forward to the TV show adaptation that is coming next month.
On Deck
I am reading Wayward by Chuck Wendig.
My daughter wants to watch Schindler’s List this week.
The Flash and Million Little Things each return for a final season on Wednesday.
Daisy Jones!!!!!!!! My husband started watching this Korean show, the physical 100 or something. I am totally sucked in. We were watching an episode last night and it’s conclusion isn’t till Tuesday and we completely freaked. Amazing the shows that you become addicted to!!

I tried to read Crossroads by Jonathan Frazan, what a pile of garbage, and this guy is supposed to be the new Hemingway? Geez. I threw the book in the trash. Now reading ” It’s All Over But The Shout’in” by Rick Bragg, a good prize winning southern author, who could be the next Hemingway or Faulkner. I truly hate pissing away good money on terrible authors, hope you have better luck.

I’ve never read Franzen or Bragg. I usually have decent luck with books because I read authors I know I like or get suggestions from people with similar tastes.

I’m the same way, but had read this guy was famous and revered. Nope, not for me. You might like Rick Bragg, he’s a keeper.

Looking forward to The Flash going out with a flourish. It sounds like we’ll see a bunch of guest stars reprising their roles, and that’s always fun.
