This Weekly Wrap-Up is a Work in Progress 1/14/23

I still haven’t figured out the direction I want to go if I continue a weekly wrap-up post each week. I couldn’t even decide what to title this one. When I was thinking through names “My Week in Consumption” popped into my head. That sounds like I have an old-timey case of TB. Anyway, this rambling mess is me writing what pops into my head as it happens.

Movies

We watched the original Top Gun with our daughter since she had never seen it. After watching the original I will say that the new one is so much better. I still love the first one, but they did such a good job on Maverick.

Some Good News and Bad News in TV

Ghosts was renewed for a third season.

Fire Country was renewed for a second season.

Abbott Elementary was renewed for a third season.

ABC has ordered Jeopardy Masters. It will be a prime-time show hosted by Ken Jennings where the six highest-ranked Jeopardy champions will play against each other. Matt Amodio, Amy Schneider, Andrew He, Mattea Roach, Sam Buttrey, and James Holzhauer will return. We are forever Team James.

TNT has announced that they will not air the already filmed fourth and final season of Snowpiercer. The show is being shopped elsewhere.

Reading

I read Pieces of Her by Karin Slaughter. I had started reading Girl, Forgotten by Slaughter and realized it was a sequel. I paused that one and read the first one instead.

Pieces of Her starts with a shooting at a restaurant. Andy and her mom Laura are there. Laura kills the shooter and that leads to secrets from her past being revealed. It also leads to Andy going on the road to uncover those secrets. It was a decent read. I liked the flashbacks to Laura’s past more than the current-day Andy story.

That doesn’t bode well for the second book since it is all about Andy as a new US Marshall investigating an old murder that might be connected to the secrets from the first book.

Pieces of Her is now a series on Netflix.

Random Thoughts

I hate what the TV business has become with networks canceling shows after an original announcement of renewal and not airing already filmed movies and shows. We would all have been better off if we were still in the old cable days of TV.

We watched the first episode of Will Trent last night. I liked it. We will be watching more.

I watched several episodes of Lincoln Lawyer on Netflix. So far, so good.

I was going to joke about finding classified documents in my garage but then I remembered that my wife has clearance to see classified documents so probably not the best joke in that situation.

I did not win the lottery. I guess I will have to continue getting by on my looks.
