Tater on TV: So Help Me Todd

So Help Me Todd aired Thursday night on CBS. I watched it Friday night. I usually don’t like to wait so long to write about a show, but I had limited writing time over the weekend.

The Premise

Todd( Skylar Astin) is a private investigator who lost his license. His mom, Margaret(Marcia Gay Harden), is a partner at an upscale law firm. Todd owes her money and she wants him to be more responsible. When Margaret sees Todd at work when he helps her with a personal situation, she is impressed with his skill and hires him as an investigator at her firm.

Tater’s Thoughts

I’m a fan of Astin and Harden so this is one I was looking forward to watching. It didn’t disappoint. Astin is perfectly cast as the laid-back, rule-skirting PI. Harden is perfectly cast as his straight-laced, by-the-book mother. It will be fun to see them working together throughout the series. Add in a sister with whom Todd is living, her husband, and an ex-girlfriend who now works at the same law firm and you get the recipe for what could be a very fun series.

I think the weekly case will determine how good each episode can be. They will need a good mystery to get people to invest in the stories each week. I am afraid this is going to be this season’s show that I love and other people never find.

I would recommend it to everyone, but especially fans of light, fun PI stories.

  1. I watched it and enjoyed it. That said, I’m not sure how long I will stick with it. Lately I find myself uninterested in network TV. The season premiere of Ghosts, which I love, was not as fun as I hoped it would be. Sigh.
