My Week in Books, Movies, and TV 8/26/22

Another week with no movies, but a lot of TV.

Movies

I did have Click with Adam Sandler on Sunday afternoon when I was home alone. I think it is one of his more underrated films. It’s the one where he can manipulate time using a remote control and as he fast forwards through life he realizes his family should be his priority over his job. I like it.

TV

I finished the first season of NCIS: Hawaii. It’s not groundbreaking television, but it is a decent enough procedural with some good Hawaii scenery.

We watched the first episode of House of the Dragon. I realized just how much I missed GOT when the music played. I’m happy to be back in that universe. The first episode was good. I’m looking forward to more.

We watched the first episode of She-Hulk and liked it. I love Marvel stuff so I’m sure I will like the rest.

We have watched the first three episodes of Only Murders in the Building. I think we all like it. I know I do. It will probably take a while to finish since we are all watching it.

I am almost done with the first season of the John Stamos show Big Shot. It fills my need for inspirational sports programming. It makes me nostalgic for my time working with teens at my old church,

We still watch 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown when my daughter gets home from work.

Books

I finished one book this week.

We Are the Brennans by Tracey Lange – When Sunday Brennan ends up in the hospital and facing DUI charges after an accident in California, she reluctantly agrees to return home to her large Catholic family in New York. She left them and her high school sweetheart five years before with no explanation. Now, the secrets that drove her away, and their connection to recent family trouble, will be revealed.

It was a decent book. It was told in alternating chapters from the viewpoint of different characters. That helped to see the thoughts and motivations of each person. I thought the big secret was a little underwhelming and it was one of those books where the whole plot stems from people not talking to each other about things. I picked it for book club and I do feel like it is discussable.

On Deck

Still no movies from the library. Maybe we will get to Dr. Strange this weekend or maybe I will just watch it alone.

We will continue Resident Alien, Only Murders, She-Hulk, and House of the Dragon.

I am reading Rivals by Katharine McGee.
