My Week in Books, Movies, and TV 8/5/22

It was another week without actively watching a movie. I’m sure I’ve had random movies on in the background, but I couldn’t tell you what they were. I guess that means they did their job of being background noise that doesn’t distract me.

TV

Most afternoons we are watching 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown on Youtube. We are already on season 7. We do play along with the game, but we are really there for the humor. We wouldn’t be spending every afternoon watching real Countdown.

We started watching The Great American Recipe. We still have a few episodes to go. I wanted to like the guy from Bowling Green, KY, but I just didn’t for some reason. We like it, but I think they should make them cook outside their comfort zone for at least one round.

We are still watching the Challenge every week. I might need to go back and watch the old seasons now.

I finally watched the season one finale of Ozark this week. I’m way behind, but at least I know the entire run is there for me to watch whenever I’m ready.

Books

I finished one book this week.

My Best Friend’s Exorcism by Grady Hendrix – Abby and Gretchen have been best friends since fifth grade. Everything is great until one night Gretchen disappears for a night in the woods at a friend’s summer house. After that night, Gretchen begins to change. Bizarre behavior, changes in appearance, and strange things happening around her. Abby is convinced she has been possessed by a demon.

I’ve liked every Hendrix book I have read. This one ranks up there with the best of them. It reminded me a lot of the latest season of Stranger Things. It is set in the 80s and there is a lot of talk about the growing fear of satanic worship. Even with those fears, Hendrix takes us down the more realistic road of adults refusing to listen to Abby, especially given her status as a scholarship student at a private school, and assuming drugs are the problem. It did slow down in places, but overall it was a very good book.

On Deck

I’m not sure when we might watch a movie. Maybe the weekend when we are more rested.

Resident Alien comes back this week. It is one of our favorite shows.

At some point, I might try to watch an actual 8 Out of 10 Cats to see what the original show is like.

I am about to start reading Sparring Partners by John Grisham.
