An Overshadowed Milestone

Today is our 30th wedding anniversary. That would normally mean we would have done something over the weekend or tonight to celebrate. That did not and will not happen. Instead, yesterday and today are all about the frantic cleaning to make the house look spotless before my MIL arrives.

My wife spent yesterday cleaning the car she will use to pick her up from the airport and then other cleaning around the house.

Today, she will work from home while I spend the day vacuuming, scrubbing bathrooms, and cleaning the kitchen. We will likely have leftovers for dinner.

Tomorrow I will do my barn shift while she drives to the airport to pick her up. The rest of the day will be about entertaining her.

Wednesday and Thursday are full of college graduation stuff. Dinner Wednesday will be chosen by the graduate. Dinner Thursday will be whatever my MIL wants.

Friday will be taking her to where my son works to see the new trails and participate in the tour he is doing that morning. That will be followed by a visit to his condo. The rest of the day before her flight out will again be about entertaining her.

The theory is that we will do something to celebrate next weekend. I’m skeptical. I’m sure with my wife taking most of the week off from work she will have a lot of work to catch up on over the weekend. Our daughter may still be home instead of at her apartment. I will have yard work to do.

I think life will get in the way of us marking this milestone in any significant way.

  1. Happy Anniversary! Make plans to do something in a couple of weeks? That gives you both time to recover from this frenetic week.

  2. It’s a shame that you can’t celebrate such a great milestone on the day itself, for it is a great milestone and one that is worthy of congratulation and celebration. In the past decade or so, I’ve made sure to mark stuff, but am flexible about the when. Congrats!
