My Week in Books, Movies, and TV 5/13/22

Another week, another movie. My streak continues.

Movies

My daughter was home for the weekend. We both love Sarah Dessen’s books, so we watched Along For the Ride on Netflix. It is your typical YA romance based on a YA book. Girl goes to the beach town, Colby to stay with her dad for the summer before college. Girl meets boy in town. They fall in love. Nothing groundbreaking, but the cast was good and it was a pleasant way to spend an evening.

TV

The cancellations came pouring in yesterday. You can find a list here. For the first time in a while, a lot of shows I watch got the ax. That should free up room to pick up some new shows next season.

TV was once again mostly watching shows to clear the DVR. I’m starting to run low on shows I watch alone.

We watched a couple more episodes of Would I Lie to You? When they have people who get how to do the show it is pretty good. I hope if it survives they find a good rotation of people who get it.

I still hate all of the new twists and advantages on Survivor, but this is a very good cast this year. They make up for the stupid changes in the game.

Books

I finished one book this week.

The Dime by Kathleen Kent – Betty Rhyzyk is a Brooklyn cop from a long line of Brooklyn cops. She moves to Dallas with her girlfriend and soon finds herself on a case involving a drug cartel and a mounting number of dead bodies. When parts of those bodies start being delivered to Betty’s apartment it becomes more than just a case.

I almost read the third book in the series first. I somehow missed the first two books in the series. I saw a review for the third book in the paper and ordered it from the library. Luckily, I discovered my mistake and got this one instead. I will definitely be reading the other two books in the series. Betty is an interesting lead character and the author surrounds her with a good supporting cast. The story was interesting and took a turn I didn’t expect. If you like mysteries and thrillers grab this one.

On Deck

We will have a busy week this week with my MIL coming to town and my daughter graduating from college. Viewing opportunities will be few and far between.

I doubt there will be a movie this week.

I will make the time to watch Survivor as always.

I am about to start reading Fevered Star by Rebecca Roanhorse.
