I am currently slogging through my third book of the year. I am reading The Hellfire Club by Jake Tapper. I’m not sure if the slog is the fault of the book or the reader. I have only kind of like the books I have chosen to read so far this year. I am hoping it h=changes with my next book.
I have three books out from the library right now:
The Other Black Girl by Zakiya Dallia Harris
The Pledge by Kathleen Kent
Hello, Transcriber by Hannah Morrissey
I put them all on hold due to the good reviews I read in the newspaper.
My next read was going to be The Other Black Girl, but it looks like the latest Michael Connelly book, The Dark Hours, will be at the library for me when I go tomorrow. Since I have struggled with the random books I have chosen so far this year, I have decided the Connelly book will be my next read.
As I wrote in this article on Medium – Murder and Mayhem Makes Me Happy – my comfort books are my thriller series with characters I love. I think Harry Bosch might be what I need to break out of my reading slump.
I like Harry Bosch, too. I know you like YA novels. Have you read Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn? I really enjoyed it.

I haven’t. I will add it to my list

I loved Ella Minnow Pea. I don’t think it’s YA though.

My son named his high school band from the book, “The Saucy Stenographers.” It’s a book about letters and words.

This year, on recommendation from a friend, I started listening to audio books (usually while I work). I finished one book in 2.5 days. I started another today. One book was our book club selection and my current book is from my own list. I haven’t decided if I’m cheating or not.

It’s not cheating. Back when I drove an hour a day I always listened to books.

Perfect. Then I shall continue. 🙂

I agree. When you’re in a reading slump you need a reliable author to guide you out.
