NBC’s La Brea – First Five Minutes

First a warning – the new TV season starts next week which means the majority of my posts will be my daily “what’s on tonight” posts until all shows have premiered and reviews of new shows.

La Brea is a new NBC show. The video below is the first five minutes of the premiere.

About the Show

An epic adventure begins when a massive sinkhole opens in the middle of Los Angeles, pulling hundreds of people and buildings into its depths. Those who fell in find themselves in a mysterious and dangerous primeval land, where they have no choice but to band together to survive. Meanwhile, the rest of the world desperately seeks to understand what happened. In the search for answers, one family torn apart by this disaster will have to unlock the secrets of this inexplicable event to find a way back to each other.

One family is torn apart. The mom and son fall in. The daughter and dad did not. The mom is played by Natalie Zea. The dad is Eoin Macken. I loved Zea in Justified and The Detour. I loved Macken in Night Shift. I love the premise. I really want this to succeed, but I worry it will meet the fate of many other sci-fi shows and end before the story is told.

  1. There are so many sci-fi shows nowadays about globally impacting changes. It’s synchronous to everything happening to humanity and La Brea is especially promising. I’m enjoying it so far.

      1. The premise about being forced to face a whole new reality may be a most traditional and most flexible one in our sci-fi literature. I think that it resonates with people who understandably need that kind of courage.
