Someone I follow posted a book tag post yesterday. It reminded me that sometimes I like to take a break from formulating a post from my own thoughts and do a fun book tag post. I searched book tags this morning and found this one. So, here goes my answers to the Book Snob Book Tag even though no one asked,

ADAPTATION SNOB: Do you always read the book before watching the film/ TV show?

I don’t. If a movie is released and I have not already read the book I will not make an effort to read the book first. Adaptations of books I like can be disappointing. Why set myself up for disappointment by making an effort to read a book once the movie or TV show has already been released?

FORMAT SNOB: You can only choose 1 format in which to read books for the rest of your life. Which one do you choose: physical books, eBooks, or audiobooks?

Easy. Physical books. I don’t listen to audiobooks anymore because I only listened while driving and I rarely drive these days. I don’t mind eBooks and they are great for travel, but I would never choose to read them exclusively. I still think nothing beats the feel of a physical book. I’m old.

SHIP SNOB: Would you date or marry a non-reader?

I did date and marry a non-reader. My wife reads one or two books a year. Usually when we are on vacation. Some vacations she chooses to read work papers instead of a book. She has a very narrow reading interest and it is tough to keep finding books that fit. I don’t know why anyone would refuse to marry a non-reader unless they were so opposed to reading that they actively tried to stop others from reading.

GENRE SNOB: You have to ditch one genre – never to be read again for the rest of your life. Which one do you ditch?

I could take the easy way out and pick a genre like romance because I already rarely read them unless it is a YA book, but I will not do that. Does literary fiction count as a genre? I would gladly give up the “serious” award winning books and keep reading my mysteries, thrillers, horror, and such. Reading should be fun.

UBER GENRE SNOB: You can only choose to read from one genre for the rest of your life. Which genre do you choose?

This is a tough one. Part of me wants to say horror so I can read my Stephen King book each year, but I don’t read much horror besides him anymore. I would probably go with thriller. I think the majority of the books I read these days would fall into that category and a good chunk of the new King books could fit there as well.

COMMUNITY SNOB: Which genre do you think receives the most snobbery from the bookish community?

It has to be romance. I think a lot of people look down on those who read romance novels, especially Harlequin type romances. It’s easy to look down on the books because of the cheesy covers and the perception that it is easy junk reading.
