My Week in Books, Movies, and TV 6/12/20

We are at the end of another week. I’m hours away from two days of sweet freedom. Last weekend I was able to spend a lot of time relaxing. This weekend I will spend a lot of time cleaning the house. I prefer my TV weekends. Next week’s review will have less TV than this week.

Movies – I can’t recall watching a movie this week. We all have TV shows we are watching either together or apart. This means that when it is time for us to watch something we are typically going to TV shows and not movies. I did have the TV on Pitch Perfect at one point on Sunday and then my daughter came n the room and wanted to watch something else. Even with all of the streaming options, we tend to watch more movies when I am regularly getting new DVDs from the library.

Television – I watched a lot of TV this week. I started watching the last season of 13 Reasons Why last Friday morning before work and finished it Sunday morning. I know a lot of people didn’t like the show, but I got really invested in the lives of the characters and wanted to see how it all ended. It wasn’t the best season of the show and there was a death at the end that probably wasn’t needed, but I thought that they did a decent job of wrapping up the story. We also finished the first season of The Mandalorian. We were a bit behind on this one. I can see why everyone was talking about it. I wasn’t too sure about it after the first couple of episodes, but as it went on I liked it more and more and can’t wait for another season. I finally started watching the latest season of On My Block. The 30-minute episodes are perfect for my 30-minute lunch break. We finished watching season one of Survivor and have moved on to season 2. We still think it’s weird that Jeff didn’t narrate the challenges in the first few seasons.

Books – I spent the week trying to finish The Moonstone by Wilkie Collins for book club at work. I failed, but I read enough to lead the discussion. Turns out only one person who showed up had finished the book. Everyone else struggled as much as I did. It was a very long book and it took forever for it to get to the point. I still added it to my book count since it took so much of my reading time.

On Deck – I don’t know if we will watch a movie this week. I guess it depends on our mood tonight and Sunday night. We will have to find a new show for all of us to watch. Everything on the DVR is stuff I watch with my daughter or stuff I watch with my wife but nothing we all watch. I will watch more On My Block. We will watch more old Survivor. We will have new episodes of Stargirl and Snowpiercer. I will finally finish reading Deathless Divide after putting it aside over and over for books for work.

My weekly plug for donations to support my blogging habit.

  1. I finished reading the Last Emperox last night. It was so good! But now I have no more Scalzi to read other than the second half of the Old Man’s War series, which I’m not that excited about. I really enjoyed Upload and Space Force on TV. But I haven’t been doing much since Wednesday because of anesthesia recovery. It really ruins one’s ability to concentrate, oddly enough.
