Tater 5-0

Why, yes, I am narcissistic enough to write for a third year in a row about my birthday. I’m told this is a big one. I went to bed last night middle-aged and woke up old. I didn’t expect it to happen so fast, but here I am.

I now have the urge to go to dinner at 4 and then go home and watch Matlock.

I have the urge to go yell at someone to get off my lawn.

I’ve fallen and I can’t get up.

I have the urge to read the obits in the paper to see if I know anyone.

I begin every sentence with “back in my day”

The left turn signal on my car is always on but I’m not turning.

I have the urge to very slowly write a check to pay for my groceries.

I guess it’s all downhill from here.

  1. Why do we dread the big 5-0 so much? Really, all it is, is another number for which we gauge the number of years in our life. It does not define our mental capacity, our physical ability or what we are/will be capable of. I hate how society has this common idea that it’s “over the hill” when everyone, and I do meanEVERYONE will be fifty at at some point in their life. I refuse to be the stereotype of what people think fifty year old women are. I run, I exercise, I eat as healthy as I can (with the occasional chocolate croissant, but I deserve it dammit, I’m 49 soon to be fifty). And yes our body’s betray us in sooo many ways but I’m going to fight that as long as I can. So fifty, the big 5-0 is just a number, you are as young as you feel. Ok my rant is officially over. Happy Birthday Tater!!!! 🎂🎉🥳🍾🥂

  2. I don’t know. My fifties were pretty good. Now, I’m in my sixties and find the prospect of the big 7-0 much more daunting that the big 5-0 ever was.
