What’s on TV Tonight(9/25/18)

Before we get to tonight, a short report on a new show from last night. We watched the new version of Magnum PI last night. It’s really hard to judge a show from just the pilot, but here I go anyway:

The good: I liked the cast. I think they were all good choices for the various roles. That’s one of the most important parts of making a good show. It was fun and I was entertained. That’s what I was looking for with this show.

The bad: The main thing I didn’t like was not that Higgins was a woman, but that it seems to be heading to a “will they, won’t they” story line with her and Magnum. Can’t she just be part of the team and not a potential love interest? It is possible to work with someone of the opposite sex without wanting to date them.

I will continue watching. Now on to tonight:

ABC: Dancing with the Stars again at 8 followed by 20/20 at 10.

This is the problem with a lot of the reality shows now. They are on too much. Do we really need 4 hours of this in two days? Nothing for me here.

CBS: NCIS at 8. FBI at 9. NCIS: New Orleans at 10.

I don’t watch any of the NCIS shows, but my wife loves them so they have space on the DVR. I normally wouldn’t watch a Dick Wolf procedural show but my wife wants to watch and I like Missy Peregrym, so I will give it a chance.

CW: CW isn’t starting the new season this week. There is a new episode of a show called The Outpost on tonight. It is a summer show I know nothing about.

FOX: Gifted at 8. Lethal Weapon at 9.

I have mixed feeling about both shows. The Gifted is an X-Men universe show. It’s decent and I will watch season 2(probably) but it is a show I could also easily give up if my wife decided she was no longer interested. Maybe it’s my apathy toward the X-Men movies seeping in to my thoughts on this show.

Lethal Weapon was one of my favorite shows last year. I was skeptical about the reboot, but it was very good. It was fun. The cast was great. And then there was friction on the set and they fired the guy who played Riggs. Now, we get Seann Willian Scott joining the show as a new partner for Murtaugh. I like Scott and he might be good, but it just seems wrong to have Lethal Weapon without Riggs. We will see if I keep watching it now.

NBC: The Voice at 8. This is Us at 9. New Amsterdam at 10.

Another reality show that is on too much. Why? I may be the only person alive who doesn’t watch This is Us. I watched the first episode to see what everyone was raving about and I can see why people got sucked in, I was able to resist. New Amsterdam is the new medical show starring the guy from Blacklist whose name  can’t remember and I’m too lazy to look up. It’s had bad reviews, but I will give it a try because I like him and Tyler Labine and medical shows.

Cable: The only thing I noticed was Mayans MC. It looks good, but I feel like I should watch Sons of Anarchy before watching this one.

I will likely watch Lethal Weapon and either Manifest or FBI tonight and will report back tomorrow.

  1. I’m with you on these reality shows that are on for a couple hours on multiple nights during the week. Of course, I’ve never watched any of these because I’m just not interested in talent shows. I did watch Magnum and enjoyed it. I’m hoping there isn’t going to be a romance aspect between him and Higgins. It’s not really a good idea. I watched whatever was on after it, but I can’t remember what it was. Hahahahahaha. I guess that’s not must-see TV for me.

  2. SoA was still going when I cut the cord, so I’ve never seen the final season or two. It had done a good job of holding my interest for much of its run, but it was really starting to wobble there towards the end of what I saw (the “SoA goes to Ireland” storyline was just finishing up when we dropped cable). Those first few seasons, though, are absolutely worth digging into. Just wait till you get to the season (3?) with Rollins as a white supremacist. Must see TV indeed.

I keep seeing references to This Is Us but I know nothing about it. Just looked it up on IMDB and I think I may have been confusing it with something else, since I thought it was in some way sci-fi themed. Mandy Moore? I thought she got stuck in a cage and eaten by a shark or something.
