The title of this post pertains to you if you have spent time this week criticizing the woman who won The Biggest Loser. I don’t watch the show. I actually discovered this discussion from the new “trending topics” on Facebook. In case you don’t know what I’m talking about, here is a synopsis. A woman went on The Biggest Loser. At the start she weighed 280 pounds. She lost 155 pounds, nearly 60% of her body weight and won $250,000. After the finale, people took to the Internet to criticize her and the show. I’m not saying she didn’t lose too much weight and I’m not saying she did. I’m saying that unless you are a doctor and have examined her, you are not qualified nor entitled to have an opinion.
People have called the show and her weight loss irresponsible. You want to talk irresponsible? Irresponsible is a doctor looking for 15 minutes of fame and going on record to “diagnose” someone they have only seen on TV. Is it possible that her weight loss is dangerous and is affecting her health? Yes, it is. Do I think you can say that from watching her on TV? No, I do not. I’m not a doctor, but I’m pretty sure there are some actual medical tests you have to run to make that decision.
I also have major issues with the general public voicing an opinion. Especially the ones who used the words disgusting to describe the way she looks. You can’t win. You are overweight, people are going to call you disgusting and tell you you need to lose weight. You are what people consider too thin and they call you disgusting and say “she should eat a sandwich.” How about you just shut up and worry about yourself. You know who I think is disgusting? People spending time online criticizing the way people look.
